Stonehaven is most famous for the Hogmanay fireballs and the iconic Dunnottar Castle, but the breath-taking coastal village of Stonehaven is a visitor attraction in its own right!
It has everything you could want from a seaside town… and more :
- Pretty Harbour
- Delightful Walks
- Heated Open Air Swimming Pool
- Stunning Castle
- Amazing food
- Best Ice-creams
Nestled in the surrounding cliffs, they create a stunning backdrop to this quaint harbour. Children paddle in the safe sandy beach in summer, or marvel at the waves crashing over the harbour walls in a storm.
Watch the world go by from the outside terraces of the hotel pubs or grab a delicious ice-cream and sit on the harbour wall and admire the fish .
The Tolbooth Museum is a memorable attraction located within the harbour, where you can view the instruments of torture that were used on criminals and rebellious Jacobite’s.
Stonehaven paddle boarding is located by Stonehaven harbour and is open all year round. You can hire all the equipment, including wetsuits and enjoy the spectacular views of the harbour from the water.
Stonehaven Beach & Walks
The beach is just over 1km long and offers a lovely walk along the shingle bay with the reward of a lovely ice-cream at either end !
There are some spectacular walks around Stonehaven , the war memorial & Dunnottar Castle , Dunnottar Woods being the highlights. Download the map guide for all walks.
Open Air Swimming Pool
The huge Olympic size swimming pool is filled with clean seawater, heated to 29C/ 85F and is surrounded by sun terraces. It is warmer than the med !
Open from late May to Early September it offers family swims and large slide, quiet swims and moonlight swims .
There is an onsite café within the stunning Art Deco building and is wheelchair friendly and it has an old school vibe.
Dunnottar Castle is simply stunning and my favourite castle to visit and a photographers & history lover’s dream! Located
Perched on top of a 160-foot rock and surrounded on 3 sides by the sea it offers THE most dramatic of locations. It was a fortress to one of the most powerful families in Scotland – Earls Marischal.
